Goals.
One of the first things I talk about with my new clients is their goals. Before we know what financial decisions to make, we need to know what we’re trying to accomplish, and goals give us our target. They let us know what we need to start doing today to help reach them in the future. They let us know if we’re on track, too, and when it may be time to change what we’re doing.
They also change our behavior. Instead of living in the short-term, written goals train our thinking about spending and saving and remind us of the long-term outcomes we’d like to have. If the idea of writing down goals that could take decades to realize is intimidating to you, just remember that they are your goals. You can change them as life changes. Without them, though, your decisions in the present will most likely be affected more by short-term fears, feelings, and instant gratification than anything else. So, let’s get some long-term goals in place. I’d be happy to meet with you to talk about them. You can also learn more on my blog, where you’ll find more videos like this, as well as articles I’ve written.
